These five ‘city posts’ concern a trip I took through central Europe, beginning on July 2nd and ending late in the evening of July 14th. I spent July 2nd in Bucuresti , as my begin-by-Berlin flight left at around seven in the morning. The “traveling-through” problem of Bucuresti was heavy on my mind–the airports frown upon sleep overs, and most Bucuresti hotels are really expensive. I’ve recently heard rumors that Bucuresti is the sixth most expensive city in the European Union.

So I’ve been promising to explain how I got hold of a .50 caliber handgun at ThrillerFest. A few people have been wondering what happened, and figured… there I was at the Hyatt Grand Central, hopped up on New York pastrami and my fourteenth coffee of the afternoon, when I decided to seize the mike, take over the room, and demand God knows what. To be honest, I don’t know why I’m bothering with this review. There are two crowds when it comes to this band and deathcore in general- love it of hate it, and most have decided before even checking the sophomore album from Suicide Silence out. The thing is, the deathcore haters and the fans that lump this group of Cali kids in with Annotations of an Autopsy and Waking the Cadaver, are missing a damn solid album- an album that sees Suicide Silence join the likes of Whitechapel, Carnifex and Impending Doom as deathcore acts that improved on their second album.

Well, this is it, folks; the last of the Voivod material. As you’ve probably read in every single review of Infini , these were the riffs recorded by the late/great Piggy and turned into the 13 songs comprising this final album. It is the capstone to a quarter century of greatness. Keep in mind that the guitar tracks used are exactly as they were recorded; no touch ups, no overdubs, no nothing! If you enjoyed the generally straight forward, though still askew, song structuring of Katorz (as I did), then you’ll more than likely enjoy Infini .

Just a while back here at BayAreaKicks.com we featured the AC/DC x Converse for their all-star roster of rock bands limited edition sneakers. To this generation the term “old school” brings a sigh of frustration I expect. When Clawfinger’s 2007 release, Life Will Kill You , arrived on my doorstep some time ago I was intrigued by its simplistic, yet clever, cover. Grunge was still a few years off and I had a rather narrow of what I liked in music. Rap? Forget it. Metal? Too heavy. Country? What a joke.
