Termites In My Basement [Hi Rez] , recording for Al Basile’s Soul Blue 7 CD. Al Basile was Roomful of Blues’ first trumpet player, in 1969, and his seventh album, Soul Blue 7 , on which he sings and plays cornet on these songs he wrote, is something of a reunion of Roomful originals — Roomful founder Duke Robillard produced it. The blurb at YouTube: ” Philip Palombo was Co- Producer, Director, Videographer and co-Editor for this Music Video which is for Al Basile’s CD “Soul Blue 7″ for Sweet Spot Records.

Brian Windhorst of The Cleveland Plain Dealer : “At least for the short term, get used to seeing the Cavaliers twin 7-footer look of Shaquille O’Neal and Zydrunas Ilgauskas on the floor together. After barely using it in the preseason, coach Mike Brown is committed to experimenting with the look most nights. His tentative pregame minute sheet has a four-minute slot to play them together in each game, though it may change depending on the opponent.

Posted by Derrick Stembridge | Filed under tunes A compilation of original previously unreleased cover versions of 4Hero’s music, reinterpreted by a selection of hand picked artists. When presented with the idea of doing another remix album, they felt a need to do something new and fresh, rather than calling up the usual remix suspects and getting dance floor club mixes. For this project, they’ve sought out a range of forward thinking outfits, orchestras and producers to cover their music.

10-29-09 Students from Ms. Swanson’s 1st grade TWI class dancing Zydeco Friends: Today was my third day at Dawes School. It was a wonderful day that started out in Ms. Swanson’s 1st grade TWI (Two Way Immersion) class. This was my second visit to the class so I told the story of “Sody Sallyraytus” and then explored Zydeco music through the use of scarves. Finally, we ended with a fun drama exercise in role playing. The students welcomed me enthusiastically into their class once again and we had a fantastic time.

Before I write another word, I have to break the bad news: Your favorite Halloween party song is probably not on the list I’m about to share with you. I don’t mean to offend; it’s just straight-up mathematics. There are thousands of Halloween songs out there in the world of the living, and I only have room for 20 warm bodies on this particular guest list. I hope that you’ll tell me all about your favorite Halloween tracks in the comments below, because a list like this one can never be too monster-sized.

Promoting, touring, tweeting, handing our books for hugs, and so on… I always thought being a writer was all about coffee shops and roll top desks, typewriters and subtle jazz floating in the background. However, the modern small press writer may spend just as much time promoting the published work as they spent crafting their future work. Collin Kelley recently released a novel, the first in a trilogy, called Conquering Venus. He has been using several different tools and methods to spread the word.

Jazzooty is a now defunct jazz-fusion group that I performed in way back in 1994-95. Members of the group included Nathan Mills (trumpet), Chris Morante (guitar, guitar synthesizer), Tom Bishop (contrabass, electric bass), and myself on drums and percussion. Jazz for your Booty! Okay this catchy phrase was not my idea, it was Nathan ’s. And here’s our cover letter from our promo package: Jazzooty is… The band that won’t sit in the corner and behave! . . . .

Mulatu Astatke Strut Records (2009) Mulatu Astaqe. Let me say that again… moo’la-too ə-sta’kā. His music is still in my head. My mind’s hands feel its different textures. My lungs expand and contract along with its rhythmic tension. I observe its underbelly. I taste it like wine swishing it around, but never spit it out. It’s too good to spit out. About a decade ago, when I first heard his music, it was like meeting an alien and falling in love at the same time. I could never quite figure it out.

Donald Miller left home at the age of 21, traveling across the country until he ran out of money in Portland, OR, where he lives today. He wrote the New York Times Bestseller Blue Like Jazz and started The Belmont Foundation , which is recruiting 10,000 mentors from 1,000 churches as a response to fatherlessness in America. His newest book, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years , shares how to apply the principles of writing great stories to real life.

You might accuse me of posting this album just as an excuse to post the video below, but that would be totally discrediting how absolutely amazing this music actually is. The tunes sound just about like the group’s name would have you believe: a simmering brew of drone, jazz and electronica with a subtle touch of occultism – and you’ve got the newest long player from The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, now available on 2xLP with a CD copy of the album included. Coming back again Saturday’s PIKNIC 1 at MUTEK_10, we come to New York-based Brendon Moeller’s stellar and very memorable mix. Another highlight for the team this year, Moeller artfully blended influences such as dub, techno, jazz, and, of course, baaaass in a set that really got the crowd moving. Brendon was kind enough to provide us with a few words about his set at MUTEK, complete with a tracklisting for those that want to dig deeper: “I put together this live show to coincide with the release of my album ‘jazz junk safari’ on third ear records.

On the Galapagos Islands, holiday makers are a common sight and many of the animals that make the region their home are accustomed to seeing people. One of the most conspicuous and prevalent animals on the archipelago is the Galapagos Sea Lion. They are also arguably the most appealing of all the inhabitants; their cheeky faces with a constant smile and their huge, black, liquid eyes have entranced boatloads of visitors on Galapagos Island tours for many years.

Departing from its usual stodgy, white bread fare, PBS has scheduled a two-part series on Latin Music. The first part aired last Monday night and can be viewed on their website as well, a benefit for those who are outside of the USA.Part one focused on Afro-Cuban music and particularly the Fania Records phenomenon. When I was collecting vinyl records, I bought at least 50 Fania Records starting from the mid 70s until the label began to peter out after its sale in 1979.

by Edward Watkinson Between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, St Lucia is a gorgeous island. It is only 27 miles wide; a very small island that has gained fame as a holiday spot because of its natural good looks. For many years, The Island remained a colony of France, but then it was taken over by England. During 1979, St. Lucia became a self-governing state of the Commonwealth of Nations. Tourists mostly visit St Lucia from January to July. They love its tropical climate and the adorable scenery of St Lucia.
