When I was a boy growing up in America in the 1950s, among the most vivid impressions I got of the spirit of Christianity was from the movies on Biblical themes that Hollywood was making at the time. Some of the films of this sort were THE ROBE, QUO VADIS, and BEN HUR. A frequent theme of these films was the stark contrast between the Romans and the Christians. Often, the hero has been banging up against the brutality and harshness of the Roman empire, and then he encounters some Christians.

We arrived to the 5 bedroom house and felt like we were in an episode of The Real World. Meeting our roomies and having our minds blown by the fully equipped house full of goodies. This was almost certainly my last big event for a short while, and the amount of time it has taken to post this report and the lack of recent updates here give a real indication of why. Far too much going on! I was pleased my good friend and work shy ultra runner, Mark (aka Sharky) was coming up from the gruesome Fens for this one. The previously online-only publication/club  The Frontline Club is launching a broadsheet – and I have just subscribed . My reasons are simple – and it’s nothing to do with content. It’s about community, and supporting a principle. (It’s for the same reasons (and free music) that I pay a monthly subscription to Bearded Magazine .) I suspect community and the social contacts engendered and supported by the web will become an increasingly important part of news business models, and I wish The Frontline Club all the best in their efforts to explore this.
