So I am working on putting more mixes up for the site.  People keep asking so I’ll oblige our 22 readers.  But… to put a lil twist on things.  I’ll be posting my roughdraft mixes, not finished sets. Simon Cowell could take British talent show The X Factor to American TV, according to reports. Simon, 49, has one last year left on his contract with FOX’s top show, American Idol. The music mogul has made clear his wish to take The X Factor to the US, however his contract with Idol does not allow it. It is claimed by The Hollywood Reporter that if a new contract is made, then Simon could co-produce The X Factor for FOX and also do American Idol through the 2011-12 season.

I totally forgot about the other things I wanted to record from Wednesday.  I remember vaguely wanting to watch Cougar Town and Modern Family , but they both COMPLETELY slipped my mind.

As I roll through the dozens of free albums I downloaded from Amazon, I found a couple of songs that stood out to me.  Neither of them is in English. I’m sure my stay in India brightened the path to this one: Mere Dholna (from Saavn celebrates Bollywood )  You can’t have a movie in India without at least four dance numbers.  They could be doing a biography of Mother Teresa and would still do a thingie with too many dancers wearing too little clothing.  None of that changes this song.  It has the fast beat of a dance number, the shrill female singer, and the in-song dialog between the guy and the girl.  No idea what the song or movie is about, but I enjoy it.

Becca had her 15-month well baby appointment yesterday, and she did great.  She had two shots (MMR and flu), and she barely cried at all - 1 tear.  Crazy.  She weighs 13 pounds, 14 ounces and is 23.75 inches tall.  Her head circumference is 17 inches, which is actually somewhere around the 5th percentile for her adjusted age (12 months).  This is odd because none of her other measurements are anywhere near the charts, but it’s not a surprise since her head has been big all along.  It just doesn’t

Last night, it was all about the glitter. Whether it was the new Toronto it-boy, Diamond Rings , or the mostly naked Kids On TV , everything sparkled. The Gladstone was indeed the best venue for this specific show to take place because of those lovely bay windows. Go big or go home. Being familiar with Kids On TV, I couldn’t wait to check out the visually elements of their show. And they didn’t disappoint: three of the four band members went pant-less and had painted faces.

Gimme Sympathy by Metric would have to be my anthem for this summer. While we were on tour through Western Canada in June, we had satellite radio in our rental car. This meant we could listen to CBC radio 3 all the time! It was fabulous! This was the first time i heard the new Metric song and i fell in love with it. They have music from the actual series located here.  Outside of that I don’t remember anything of interest.  The main deal at this website is the forum.  It dates back to 2003, before this whole Web 2.0.  What did I find there? It’s been a minute since we last saw Mr. Yorke or his Radiohead brethren but they always seem to show up on time. Thom cooks up another dish and brings along producer Nigel Godrich for the release of “Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses,” his contribution to the The Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack . Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston’s mom, recently revealed to Jet that she was “summoned” by God to save her daughter. Lil Wayne’s highly questionable rock album, Rebirth , has been pushed back again, this time from November 24 all the way to December 15 (it was once scheduled to come out in April). We’ve suggested in the past that these delays may be Universal’s attempt to spare us for as long as possible. But we wonder if maybe Wayne’s been taking all the extra time to better himself, Groundhog Day –style, through guitar and singing lessons? And then when Rebirth really does come out, it won’t sound anything like “Prom Queen” ? One can dream.

Smile! Yer about to get wet! So my father turned 68 this year.  I thought it would be a nice gift to give him my tractor lawn mower and a few other items that I knew he could use that I simply no longer needed.   The main issue was getting the tractor to him.. I mean this thing aint small and I no longer have a truck..  I decided the best bet would be to rent a truck and haul it to him..  It’s a thousand mile trip from my home in Texas to his in Tennissee and I didn’t really look forward to that drive in that truck..  I certainly didn’t want to make it twice!    So I also loaded up my Motorcycle with the plan of riding it back.

Andre Rieu fans who can’t get to his show at Sydney’s Acer Arena on October 16 don’t have to miss out. The concert will be broadcast live in cinemas across the country. What a very, very small place the world can seem sometimes. As it turns out, I’m reviewing an original stage production called The Gogol Project. It happens to be directed by a guy I’ve known since middle school. He didn’t remember me immediately, even after I kind of jogged his memory by naming different people we both new. On the plus side, he also hates the same people from our past that I do. In any event, I haven’t seen this guy in something like 15 years and lo and behold! I run into him again and he’s doing what he loves.

Details are sketchy but TheNext2Shine has learned that Rihanna will be releasing a new album this year. The Barbadian beauty’s solo effort will be her first since being attacked by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown back in February. On such occasions I feel both excited and annoyed.  Excited to hear something good amongst the waves of faceless branded rubbish and third rate copycats; and annoyed that I let such a peach of an album escape a listen on its original release.

There has been a lot of talk about “unlinkability” in the context of web authentication systems. For example Cardspace is touted as being somehow more privacy friendly compared to OpenID because it can support different identifiers for each site the user is interacting with. This post is a first attempt to summarize some points around that– complete with very rusty blogging skills. To start with, the type of unlinkability envisioned here is a very weak form compared to the more elaborate cryptographic protocols involving anonymous credentials.

Our striking lead singer was a local songwriter named Shannon Stephens (we shared last names but with different spellings), who had a gorgeous alto voice like Judy Collins and a penchant for writing catchy folky songs about love and heartache.

Today’s Halloween Haunters have no idea how hard we had it way back when, before special lights made just for Halloween, strobe lights, and fog machines were part of the scene. I remember when I had to travel to Sleepy Hollow uphill both ways on a sway back horse in 3 feet of snow! The bill providers for an additional 13 weeks of unemployment benefits in states where unemployment rates exceed 8.5%. Illinois is one of those states, with an unemployment rate of about 10%. Peter Roskam voted against the benefit extension.   He was alone among the Illinois delegation in doing so. The measure passed by a margin 331-83, garnering a substantial number of Republican votes.

Its been over a week and we still haven’t recovered from the Electric Zoo music festival. For the first electronic music festival in New York City, we would say it was a success. With a great selection of music from DJs in house and dance, it proved to be more than a festival, but also an event and a gathering harnessing a dance and music culture along with its taste-makers from different parts of the world -  including New York’s own Danny Tenaglia and Roger Sanchez .
